Rain can make for Hazardous Driving

Driving around the Portland metro area becomes a challenge especially during the commuting hours. Each year during the rainy season, there is an increase in traffic accidents due to slick roads, standing water, and driver’s inattention to the changing weather conditions.

During the warm summer months, the oil and grease on the roadway doesn’t have a chance to wash off. The first rain brings the oil and grease to the surface of the roadway resulting in unexpectedly slick areas.

Remember to give yourself extra time to get where you are going, slow down on the road, and be prepared for slick road surfaces. Also, be on the lookout for other drivers losing control of their vehicles and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
