The Bicyclist’s Survival Guide

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) maintains “The Bicyclist’s Survival Guide” and it is available for viewing on the ODOT website. It is a timely guide for the summer months when there is an increase in ridership and unfortunately in bicycle accidents. Take a moment and familiarize yourself once again with the “rules of the road.”

It is important to remember that a bicycle is considered a vehicle, and the rider must obey all of the rules of the road. These rules include:

  • Obey all traffic laws including speed, stop signs, and the use of signals.
  • Ride sober.
  • Go with the flow of traffic and don’t ride against it.
  • Don’t attempt to ride and use a cellular device.

For complete bicycle safety tips, visit the website and read the new guide and avoid a bicycle accident.
